For The Mozart Festival, artists and thousands of visitors come to Salzburg, city of Mozart’s birth, to celebrate Mozart: from Germany, Russia, Spain, France, Great Britain, Austria, Italy, Spain, the Middle East, Asia, North and South America, and from around the world. It is one of the world’s most spectacular music events.

Coverage of The Mozart Festival from American Public Media is an extraordinary radio experience. Artists introduce their performances in backstage clips, short location-recorded features tour the Salzburg Mozarteum Foundation’s priceless collections, and most of all, Mozart’s genius is heard in world-class performances of his music. Behind-the-scenes features take listeners for a close-up look at original manuscripts and letters by Mozart, the first published music by 7-year-old Mozart, a rare first edition of father Leopold Mozart’s definitive textbook on violin playing, and an exciting private encounter with Mozart’s own violin, recently brought home to Mozart’s birthplace. Experience all the sounds of Salzburg – its marketplaces, cafes, narrow cobblestone streets, and most of it, the music – on The Mozart Festival.

Performers include three of the great world’s great orchestras: the Vienna Philharmonic, Camerata Salzburg, and the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, as well as the extraordinary Scottish Chamber Orchestra. Stellar performers include French conductors Louis Langrée, and Marc Minkowski, and British conductors Ivor Bolton and Robin Ticciati. Two world-class performers – pianist Paul Lewis of Great Britain and soprano Christiane Karg of Germany – highlight roster of soloists.

Three of Mozart’s string quintets are featured on The Mozart Festival series, performed by an international quintet including violinists Alina Ibragimóva (Russia) and Renaud Capuçon (France), violists Gérard Caussé (France) and Léa Hennino (France), and ‘cellist Clemens Hagan (Austria).
